Meet Petey
His Forever Home is Here
Petey came to Roughneck as a stray after being brought to us by the local police department. He was thin, malnourished, dirty, and had a wire around his neck.
It didn’t take him long to make himself at home with the pack. Petey has grown into a healthy, happy, energetic young dog who loves to play just as much as he loves to snuggle.
Around here, we affectionately call him “Stinky.” He’s white, full of energy, and somehow always manages to be dirty — but he’s also a lot of fun and one of the best snugglers in the house.
Meet Rooster
From the Pen To Open Fields
Rooster spent much of his early life outside in a pen alongside goats, a miniature pony, and—fittingly—roosters. What started as a cute little puppy quickly turned into a very large, energetic dog his owner could no longer manage.
Now at Roughneck Rescue & Sanctuary, Rooster has room to move, run, and simply enjoy being a dog. He is tall, lanky, absolutely stunning, and happiest when he’s racing through the field.
The joy on his face when he runs says everything.
Meet Chico
A Safe Place to Land
Chico came to Roughneck Rescue through the local police department after showing up as a stray and settling onto a man’s front deck. He was frightened, difficult to approach, and clearly needed somewhere safe to go.
Danny brought Chico to Roughneck and began working with him slowly, helping him settle in and learn what life could look like with structure, patience, and consistency.
Chico still has challenges, but here he has something he didn’t have before — a safe place, a familiar pack, and people who understand him. Roughneck may very well be the place he calls home for the rest of his life.

Meet Misty
From Wild Child to Finding her Balance
Misty Mae came to Roughneck at just six months old after her family decided they could no longer manage her and planned to have her euthanized. She had been labeled aggressive, but what we saw was something very different — a young Silver Lab with endless energy, no training, and absolutely no idea what was expected of her.
She was truly a wild little girl when she arrived. With time, structure, exercise, and a lot of patience, Misty began learning how to settle, communicate her needs, and develop some much-needed manners.
She still has plenty of energy and a big personality, but Misty has come a long way. She is beautiful, sweet, sassy, and proof of what can happen when a dog is given the time and guidance they need.
Meet Nova
Learning to Trust
Nova came to Roughneck as a young dog who needed a calmer environment and a little more support than she was getting at home. She was unsure of both people and other dogs and had a hard time feeling safe and confident.
With time, patience, and the structure of the pack, Nova has made wonderful progress. She has become more comfortable, more playful, and much more confident in her surroundings.
Best of all, she and Misty have become inseparable. The two of them spend their days playing, running, and enjoying life together — exactly what we hoped for when Nova came to Roughneck.
Why Some Dogs Stay
Not every dog is suited for a traditional adoption. Some need ongoing structure, medical care, or a stable environment they can trust. For those dogs, Roughneck becomes home.
